A brand promise is only worth what it protects. Ours protects two things: the value and reputation of every dealer who puts an InStride display on their floor, and the home of every customer they recommend it to.
In the resilient flooring industry, brand standards are easy to write and hard to hold. It is one thing to put together a glossy spec sheet. It is another thing to walk away from a profitable SKU because the substrate is not what it should be, the films are recycled across the industry, the EIR is generic, or the manufacturer is not built for the long haul. We do that work, and we do it before any product ever ships into a partner's warehouse.
The result is what we call the InStride Standard. It is the multi-stage process every product has to clear before it earns the right to wear our name on the box, sit on a partner's showroom wall, and end up in a homeowner's living room.
This article is the inside look at what that standard actually requires. It is built for the independent flooring dealers, the brick-and-mortar partners, and the design-savvy buyers who want to know exactly what is inside the boxes they are stocking and selling.
Stage One: The Substrate Has To Be Engineered, Not Inherited
Every InStride floor starts with the structural platform underneath the visual. Substrate quality is where dimensional stability lives. It is where acoustic performance lives. It is where the floor either holds up to ten years of family life or quietly fails after five.
We do not buy substrates off a shelf. We engineer them, in partnership with manufacturers who can hold the tolerances we require. Before a single film is selected for a SKU, the substrate has to clear a structural audit that addresses construction, composition, certifications, and acoustic performance.
- Construction specification, including core thickness, attached pad density, and overall build
- Material composition with full MSDS documentation and current manufacturing licensing
- IIC and STC acoustic ratings appropriate for both single-family and multi-family applications
- Dimensional stability and structural tolerance under temperature and humidity variation
- Wear-layer thickness specification verified against the wear class the product is sold under
Why this matters for our partners
Claims happen when the substrate fails. The ones that show up in your inbox three months after install are almost always the result of a corner cut at the platform level. Engineering the substrate up front is the cheapest claim insurance any flooring program can buy. We pay it on every single SKU.
Stage Two: The Decorative Films Have To Be Designed, Not Picked
The visual on an InStride plank is not pulled from a factory's standing catalog. It is curated independently of the substrate manufacturer. We work directly with decorative film print suppliers, study the color and grain stories shaping the homes our partners' customers are actually living in, and commission visuals built around those trends.
Then we lock the films down. We do not allow the same A-films or B-films to circulate across multiple US distributors riding the same factory catalog. And inside our own product lines, we do not recycle a film across SKUs. The visual you carry on a ProStride plank is not the visual the dealer down the street is selling under another brand name.
Why this matters for partner value
Repeated visuals are the quiet engine of price pressure in this industry. When two competing dealers carry the same plank under different stickers, the homeowner shops on price. When the visuals on your wall are unique to InStride, the homeowner shops on value. That is the entire commercial argument for film independence, and it is one of the clearest ways we support stronger partner differentiation.
Stage Three: TrueGrain EIR That Was Made for the Visual It Sits Under
An Embossed-in-Register texture is only as good as its alignment with the printed visual. A generic embossing plate run across thirty different film designs is not EIR. It is texture. We refuse to confuse the two, and we will not call a floor EIR unless it actually is one.
For every InStride SKU we develop, we commission dedicated EIR plates or wheels engineered specifically for that plank's film design. We have over sixty proprietary tools in production and counting. We call our system InStride TrueGrain EIR, and it is the reason an InStride floor reads as wood under a homeowner's hand the way a competitive product simply cannot.
- Custom EIR plates or wheels per SKU, cut to match each film's exact grain pattern
- No reused, generic embossing across the line
- Texture and visual aligned knot for knot, valley for valley
- A meaningful, measurable design investment built into the product, not added at retail
Stage Four: Every Floor Is Tested, Documented, and Certified
No InStride floor enters the program without complete compliance documentation. Independent dealers stand behind the products they sell with their reputation in their local markets. We do not put them in a position to defend a product whose paperwork does not back it up.
Material Safety & Composition
Full MSDS documentation, manufacturing licensing, and current certifications. Phthalate-free, low-VOC, and indoor-air-quality compliant where applicable.
Acoustic Performance
IIC and STC ratings tested and verified for the construction. Critical for multi-family applications and high-end single-family installations.
Dimensional Stability
Tested under temperature and humidity variation. Stability tolerances published and verifiable, not estimated from competitive products.
Wear & Stain Performance
Wear-layer thickness verified by independent measurement, with stain and harsh-chemical performance documented for residential and light-commercial use.
Stage Five: The Manufacturing Partner Has to Be Built for the Long Haul
The most carefully designed product in the world fails if it cannot be made consistently. The InStride Standard requires manufacturing partners who can run our specifications cleanly, repeatedly, and at the scale our growing partner base requires.
That means a multi-point evaluation of every factory we work with. It also means walking away from manufacturers who cannot or will not flex around the InStride approach to films, EIR, and substrate quality.
🏗️ Substrate Expertise
Deep capability in rigid core construction, material composition, and structural tolerance across multiple thickness options.
🎥 Third-Party Film Flexibility
Willingness and capability to run decorative films we source independently, not just whatever the factory has on hand.
🔩 Custom EIR Capability
Ability to produce and run dedicated TrueGrain EIR plates or wheels commissioned specifically for InStride film designs.
⚖️ Repeatable Quality
Consistent manufacturing tolerances run after run, with full inspection and quality reporting available on every container.
🤝 Long-Term Mindset
Commitment to a multi-year supply relationship that supports shared growth and protects continuity for our partners.
📜 Compliance Discipline
Current certifications, full licensing, and complete MSDS documentation maintained without prompting.
Stage Six: The Independent Dealer Earns the Brand, Not Just the Product
The InStride Standard does not stop at the box. Once the floor is engineered, designed, manufactured, and certified, it has to land in the hands of a dealer who can represent the brand the way it deserves to be represented. That is the last gate, and it is one we take just as seriously as the first five.
We sell exclusively through independent flooring retailers. The expert team in your local showroom is the human face of every InStride product, and the partner relationship has to be built on shared standards, mutual respect, and a long-term mindset.
What we look for in an InStride partner
A locally-respected showroom. A team that takes pride in the consultation, not just the close. A commitment to protecting the value of the product on the wall. A willingness to let our development investment work for both of us. A long-term mindset that sees the brand the same way we do.
What we offer in return
Floors that cannot be cross-shopped at the box store. Visuals that do not appear under another brand on a competitor's wall. Direct-line CEO support, a Business Partner Manager dedicated to your territory, and the development investment built into every SKU so your team can present premium value with confidence.
The Standard Is the Product
A lot of brands write standards. We hold ours. Every floor on the InStride wall has cleared every gate above. Substrate engineered. Films designed and locked. TrueGrain EIR custom-cut for the SKU. Compliance documented. Manufacturing partner verified. Dealer earned.
We do not skip any of those stages. We have walked away from beautiful products that could not clear them, and we will keep walking away. That discipline is what we mean when we say that an InStride floor was designed on purpose. It is also what every independent flooring dealer who carries our brand is buying when they put our display in their showroom.
The InStride name on the box is not a logo. It is a promise to a dealer that we did the work before they have to. We mean it on every floor, every container, and every partnership. That is the InStride Standard.
