At InStride Surfaces, we do not select finished products from a supplier catalogue. We build each flooring program intentionally, from substrate to design print to texture.
In the standard flooring import model, many brands begin with what is already available. A factory presents a finished product kit, the importer selects from the wall, and the result enters the market with little structural or visual differentiation.
At first glance, that process may seem efficient. But it often produces the same outcome across multiple brands: repeated visuals, familiar construction profiles, and showroom floors filled with products that look interchangeable.
InStride takes a different path. Our development philosophy begins with intention. We coordinate substrate engineering, decorative film design, and embossed-in-register technology across the full production process to create flooring that stands apart in the market and delivers more value for our partners.
The Traditional Import Model Creates More of the Same
In the standard catalogue model, manufacturers present a finished product kit to importers or distributors. Products are often selected from existing showroom walls or factory catalogues, then launched with minimal opportunity for true customization.
The Pre-Packaged Product Kit
- Pre-selected decorative film prints chosen by the manufacturer
- Standard thickness and construction specifications with limited variation
- Minimal opportunity for design input or visual differentiation
- The same film prints available to and used by other US distributors
The result is familiar across the industry: many brands, same visuals. Showrooms fill with “me too” products, customers struggle to distinguish one offering from the next, and dealers are pushed into competing more heavily on price.
Our Three-Stage Development Process
InStride Surfaces builds each flooring program by integrating the strongest design and construction processes across the entire production journey. We do not pull a floor off a wall. We shape the product deliberately through a three-stage model that gives us greater control over quality, appearance, and differentiation.
Substrate Engineering
We begin with the structural platform, reviewing manufacturing partners for construction quality, performance, precision, and technical capabilities.
Decorative Film Selection
We independently curate film visuals rather than accepting whatever the factory has on hand, creating stronger uniqueness across each product line.
Embossed-in-Register Development
We align physical texture with visual grain through dedicated EIR tooling, producing a more natural, premium, and authentic finished floor.
Every stage is intentional. Every decision is made with partner value in mind. The investment to bring a more distinctive floor to market is built into the way we develop products from the beginning.
Substrate Engineering Sets the Foundation
Before a single visual is selected, InStride evaluates the structural platform behind the floor. Great design depends on strong construction, and the foundation of every great floor is the quality of the substrate beneath it.
We conduct a thorough review of substrate manufacturing partners, examining not only what they can produce, but how consistently and precisely they can produce it. We only move forward with platforms capable of supporting the advanced decorative and embossing technologies used later in development.
- Construction specifications and available core thickness options
- Material composition and full MSDS documentation
- Manufacturing licensing and certifications
- Acoustic performance testing, including IIC and STC ratings
- Dimensional stability and structural tolerances
Our Objective at This Stage
Partner with manufacturers who produce a high-quality structural platform capable of supporting advanced decorative and embossing technologies, not simply a floor that passes minimum spec.
Decorative Film Selection Creates Real Differentiation
Once the structural platform is established, InStride works directly with decorative film print suppliers independent of the substrate manufacturer. This is a critical distinction. Rather than selecting from a limited catalogue of prints already held by the factory, we curate the visuals ourselves to maximize uniqueness in the market.
- Personally select the decorative film prints used in every product
- Commission dedicated sets of B-films per SKU to expand visual variation and reduce plank repeat
- Ensure that A-films and B-films are not repeated across different SKUs within the same product line
Why This Matters on the Showroom Floor
Multiple unique film sets increase the natural appearance of the floor and reduce the repetitive visual patterns common in a commoditized market. The result is a product that feels more authentic and less interchangeable.
Embossed-in-Register Development Brings the Product to Life
The final stage is where InStride products achieve their premium and authentic character. For every SKU developed, we commission dedicated EIR plates or wheels engineered specifically for that product’s decorative film design.
This means the physical texture of the floor aligns with the visual grain pattern. It is a higher level of craftsmanship than what is typically achieved through standard factory catalogue selections, where embossing is often more generic and less tailored to the design itself.
The EIR Difference
When texture aligns with the visual grain, the floor reads as genuinely natural. It creates a more authentic appearance, a more premium finished product, and stronger market positioning for our partners.
Greater Design Authenticity
Unique film sets and grain-matched EIR tooling help produce floors that look and feel genuinely natural, not mass produced.
Higher Visual Variation
Dedicated A and B film sets per SKU dramatically reduce plank repeat, helping every floor feel more one-of-a-kind.
Stronger Retail Differentiation
Products that cannot be directly matched at competing stores reduce price-comparison pressure and help protect margin.
Long-Term Partner Value
Our development investment is built into the product itself, not passed downstream, allowing partners to offer premium flooring at a competitive cost.
Developing unique film sets and custom EIR tooling represents a meaningful investment by InStride Surfaces. We make this investment intentionally so our partners can sell for more, not less.
What We Look for in Manufacturing Partners
The most successful manufacturing partnerships with InStride Surfaces are built on shared standards, genuine flexibility, and a long-term mindset. We are not looking for the lowest-cost supplier. We are looking for the right partner to help deliver our promise to the business partners who represent our brand.
Substrate Manufacturing Expertise
Deep knowledge of rigid core construction, material composition, and structural tolerances across multiple thickness options.
Third-Party Film Flexibility
Willingness and capability to integrate decorative films sourced independently by InStride rather than relying only on in-house catalogue prints.
Custom EIR Capability
Ability to produce and run custom EIR plates or wheels commissioned specifically for InStride film designs on a per-SKU basis.
Consistent Quality & Tolerances
Reliable, repeatable manufacturing quality that meets or exceeds specifications across every production run.
Long-Term Partnership Mindset
Commitment to a durable supply relationship that supports shared growth while delivering exceptional flooring products to the market.
Certification & Compliance
Full manufacturing licensing, current certifications, and complete MSDS documentation available at every stage of the partnership.
We Do Not Simply Import Flooring. We Design It.
At InStride Surfaces, every product is built intentionally to combine structural performance, design authenticity, and long-term partner value. This philosophy guides how we work with manufacturing partners around the world and how we show up in every showroom we enter.
It also reflects what sets us apart. We do not begin with what is already available and ask how to sell it. We begin with what should exist, then build toward it with discipline, design, and purpose.
That is the InStride difference.
